Andrea Branzi, the renowned Italian architect and designer, has been a prominent figure in neomodern design. His creations, now housed in the collections of the most important international design museums, have received recognition and prestigious awards.
His collaboration with Metea began in 2002, giving life to approximately sixty works that testify to a fruitful relationship between the designer and entrepreneur Giovanni Scacchi. This synergy revolves around Plexiglas, a material perfectly suited to interpret his unique design philosophy.
Every object designed for Giovanni Scacchi by Andrea Branzi is a theoretical model of reality. When Branzi speaks about these works, explaining their profound essence, he describes universes: Plexiglas is assumed as a paradigm, fully embodying a specific worldview. The material, with its various processing possibilities, encapsulates the central themes of this author’s work: the Infinite, as well as the Void or the theme of Internal/External spaces, can be perfectly represented. However, it is transparency, surpassing that of glass, that Branzi particularly appreciates.
The relationship with Giovanni Scacchi evolves with new collections each year, constantly exploring new expressive possibilities. The particularly rich year of 2011 even sees three collections: Oro (Gold), Erbe (Herbs), and Evanescenze (Vanishings). The year 2017 is also pivotal, featuring two collections both produced for the Giovanni Scacchi Gallery. The first, Orbite, consists of two vases in which Branzi expresses himself with an entirely new language; in the Nature Diverse collection, he touches on another fundamental theme of his poetics, the contrast between Natural and Artificial. All these works, designed by Branzi and produced by Metea, span a fifteen-year period and have introduced new creative concepts to the global design landscape.
