Shiro Kuramata’s Pyramid chest of drawers, a design conceived in 1968 and produced in 1980 with Metea for Cappellini, is a work that reflects the innovative approach of the Japanese designer to the world of object design.
This work stands out for its pioneering use of materials and forms, highlighted by the pyramid-shaped structure made of transparent acrylic and the 17 drawers in black acrylic of various sizes. The Pyramid not only attracts attention for its unconventional aesthetics but also testifies to Kuramata’s passion for the unusual, the sensual and the ephemeral.
In reimagining the relationship between form and function, Kuramata created a project that had a significant impact, imposing his surreal and minimalist aesthetic on everyday objects. The chest of drawers rests on black rubber wheels with chrome metal casing, further emphasizing its versatility and originality.
